Trentham and Hanford - Burglary and incident updates, local updates, Police Street Surgery and purse found

Good afternoon everyone, 

Please find at the bottom of this e-mail the list of locations that I have attended over the last few days along with the upcoming Police Street Surgeries. 

Burglary update

I wanted to keep you all up to date with regards to our investigation into the residential burglary at Southgate Avenue, the attempted burglary at a local business and the theft of a ring doorbell at Caldew Grove. 

In the early hours of 23/01/26 Police responded to a residential burglary in the Basford area. Suspect(s) had gained entry to the properties key safe, entered the property using the house key, obtained a vehicle key and stole a vehicle.

Just over an hour later officers stopped the stolen vehicle, there were 4 persons on board, who made off. Two were located, a juvenile male and an adult male, and both were arrested in connection to the burglary and theft of the motor vehicle.  

Both have been released on bail whilst enquiries into the offences continue. 

As both the burglary at Southgate Avenue and in Basford both involved the suspects gaining entry to the properties key safe, we are currently establishing and investigating if the incidents are connected. 

At present there have been no further incidents (connected to the above) reported to the Police in the Trentham/Hanford area since 22/01/26.

If you do have a key safe, please ensure that it is installed in a place out of sight.

Local updates 

It has been a very busy few days for myself, which has included helping one of our local businesses in identifying those involved in the theft of vapes, assisting and resolving complaints of anti-social behaviour and looking into school parking complaints in the area of Jubilee Road/Ivy Grove. 

The Canal 

I have been asked to have an increased presence on the canal following concerns from a resident that a cyclist had gone past them at speed and in very close proximity to them as they walked along the canal. 

Today I completed a patrol of the canal, and I will be on there as frequently as I can. 

Police Street Surgeries

At the time of sending this e-mail over 129 Police Street Surgeries have been completed in the Trentham and Hanford area, with many more planned for the very near future. 

I’ve always worked with the mindset that to truly understand what is happening on our area and on our streets, speaking and engaging with residents is fundamental in achieving this. 

These street surgeries have been incredibly useful in helping me to gain a much greater understanding of the issues residents want the Neighbourhood Police team to focus on and in assisting me in communicating what the Police are doing about the issues you raise. 

I also hope they are making it easier for residents to meet me.

I want to ensure residents feel happy, safe and reassured. Therefore, as always, you are welcome to attend any of the surgeries, regardless of what street they are in.

27/01/26 - there will be a Police Street Surgery at Pennymore Cl 18:45 - 19:00

28/01/26 - there will be a Police Street Surgery at Timor Gr - 18:45 - 19:00
